Fire Ants
The Battle
We here at A-Pest-Pro know how burdensome it is to have these stinging,
destructive pests! It seems that no matter what product you buy the ants keep
coming back.
So, stop wasting your money and call the Professionals. We take care of all
types of ant problems, and IF they do come back, we do too!
Invading Ants Hurt the Ecosystem
Many of the most persistent ant pests are not native to this country. Two of
these, Argentine ants and Red Imported Fire ants, are known to drive out less
aggressive native ants, often with severe consequences to the ecosystem.
This has been well documented with Red Imported Fire ants, and now it is
being documented with Argentine ants. A recent study showed that the Coast
Horned lizard in California is threatened because the Argentine ant is taking
over areas where harvester ants used to live. Harvester ants are the primary
food source for the lizard, but the lizard won't eat Argentine ants, apparently
because they taste bad.
Another recent study in South Africa showed that native ants bury large
seeds of native plants, and that these buried seeds germinate very well after a
fire comes through the area. When the Argentine ants take over, they don't bury
the seeds. The fire burns most of the seeds, and there is a ten-fold drop in the
number of large-seeded plants that germinate after a fire.
